Ms. Be's Garden Market, a Black-owned business in the Valley of Arizona, is deeply rooted in the local community. Committed to supporting local farmers and sustainable farming practices, they operate a small farm-to-table kitchen, preparing alkaline, plant-based meals, juices, teas, and other naturally produced products from their South Phoenix farm and other local farmers. Ms. Be, also known as former WNBA player and coach Bridget Pettis, is raising funds for an outreach mission to Africa to reconnect with her original heritage. Supporting @msbesgardenmarket products helps her and her team continue their worldwide work through her foundation with the youth, @bridgetpettisfoundation. They aim to raise awareness of local food sources, promote food cultivation, and provide nourishment through the land as intended by God. Bridget is a farmer at a collaborative incubator farm known as Spaces of Opportunity in the Valley, and most of the produce used in Ms. Be's Garden Market meals is sourced from Spaces of Opportunity and other neighboring farmers and gardeners.
Bridget's journey and passion for healthy eating are at the heart of Ms. Be’s. She founded the business with the intention of introducing more healthy options into the market, particularly in lower income areas, food banks, school lunch programs, and for the elderly. She believes that health is a crucial component of a healthy life. "I believe that if you feel better, you will do better," she says. Ms. Be’s provides high-quality, nutritious meals from locally sourced, farm-fresh ingredients to promote healing and restore the body.
Ms. Be's is not just a business; it's a community. Bridget's career has mostly been on the basketball court, where she fulfilled her dream of becoming a professional basketball player. In 1997, Bridget scored the first basket for the Phoenix Mercury in its inaugural season, and her jersey was retired to the Ring of Honor in 2024. She has strongly advocated for community work and believes that food can bring better health results to her community. "I'm not here to remind everyone how bad the world is, but I am here to show how beautiful and abundant it is," she says. "Plant a seed, grow some food, and you will see for yourself. I’m just grateful that God chose me to do some of the work. I'm not here to do it all, that takes a village, but I am of the village." This sense of community is also reflected in the kitchen, where Bridget collaborates with Sous Chef Athena Atkins. Their shared love for food and their mission are bound to bring much success to Ms. Be's.
Bridget is passionate about using a variety of flavors and spices inspired by her travels during her basketball career. Real food is her main source of inspiration. She finds it amazing how a single plant can be used to create a multitude of dishes. Bridget also enjoys collaborating with Sous Chef Athena Atkins, who works with her to create delicious and nutritious meals. Athena, a mother and a nutritionist, is focused on teaching the next generation about the importance of homegrown, local food and the concept of "eating your rainbow" in every meal. Bridget and Athena are deeply connected to the food they grow, and this connection is bound to lead to great success. Ms. Be's Garden Market aims to bridge the financial gap in the African American community's food production and distribution. The market is currently seeking business investors to further their vision and mission. For more information on available products and locations, please visit our website at msbesgardenmarket.com.
